Walsin Energy Cable, a joint venture between Danish cable giant NKT HV Cables AB and Taiwanese wire and cable maker Walsin Lihwa Corp, launched its latest submarine power cable plant in Kaohsiung that is deemed to contribute to Taiwan’s offshore wind sector’s localization.
The factory is located in the Kaohsiung Intercontinental Container Terminal's phase one area and takes up a site measuring 233,888 square meters with a building area of roughly 59,828 square metres. Its primary purpose is to manufacture high-voltage inter-array and export cables for the country's offshore wind industry. Â

For the Dutch offshore wind zones of IJmuiden Ver and Nederwiek, NKT has been given three turnkey high-voltage power cable projects. The projects have an approximate EUR 2 billion total order value (or around EUR 1.9 billion at standard metal prices), setting a new corporate record for NKT as the largest combination of orders ever received.
NKT has been given the turnkey projects for the project lots Beta, Gamma, and Nederwiek 2 with a total installed capacity of 6 GW to design, build, install, and commission about 1,700 km of 525 kV XLPE high-voltage direct current (HVDC) encompassing both on- and offshore power cable systems.
NKT intends to produce the cables at the high-voltage factory in Karlskrona, Sweden, which uses renewable electricity, and to employ a portion of recycled metal for the conductors. Additionally, NKT Victoria, one of the most modern and fuel-efficient cable laying vessels in the business, is scheduled to do the installation.
