Danish and Italian cabling contractors NKT and Prysmian have won a major tender for work on connection projects that will connect future Dutch offshore wind farms to the main grid. The Dutch-German transmission grid operator TenneT organized the tender.
The contracts call for the installation of five 525kV cross-linked polyethylene (XLPE) HVDC (high voltage direct current) cable connections for five of TenneT's 2GW projects. The work is expected to be finished between 2028 and 2030.
NKT's portion of the award, which is approximately €2 billion ($2.12 billion), is related to the cable connections of IJmuiden Ver Beta, IJmuiden Ver Gamma, and Nederwiek 2, with a total installed capacity of 6 GW, landing onshore at Maasvlakte in the port of Rotterdam.
The contracts' scope of work covers all jointing works in the subsea and land sections as well as design, engineering, production, delivery, project management, and offshore, nearshore, and inshore cable installation. Â

Over the next few months, the company plans to invest 200 crores in capital expenditures to expand its manufacturing capabilities at Urse, Pune. The goal of this capex is to improve production capabilities in order to satisfy the demands of the automotive and solar power industries.
Being the only plant in India with a vertical column measuring 121 meters, Finolex's J Power Systems manufacturing facility is well-equipped to produce EHV XLPE (Extra High Voltage Cross Linked Poly Ethylene) Insulated Power Cables.
