January 2023 – KBR, a leading US-based multinational contractor, along with Showa Denko, its Japanese acetyls technology associate, have been chosen by Asian Paints to offer services for a grassroots vinyl acetate monomer (VAM) facility in India. As per the terms of the deal, the company will offer a technology license, proprietary equipment, and basic engineering for a 100,000 t/y facility, whilst Showa Denko will offer the catalysts, together with its technical operating knowledge. The precise location of the new facility has not been disclosed yet, nor has a timescale for the plan. Doug Kelly, KBR president, technology said that they are happy to back Asian Paints' image to generate eco-friendly paints using their VAM technology. he further added that along with offering a sustainable solution, the facility will drive substantial cost efficiencies for Asian Paints by incorporating their production and supply chain and lowering import of raw materials.
November 2022-Â Asian Paints has recently disclosed their plans to set up a new production facility to manufacture Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) and Vinyl Acetate Ethylene Emulsion (VAE) in India. The development of the latest plant to produce VAM would be dependent on certified technology set up with Kellogg Brown & Root LLC (KBR), USA. KBR refers to a USD 7.3 Bn company based in the USA that exists in almost 80+ countries. It is now disclosed that the organization has announced its debut in technology and other related contracts with KBR for producing VAM in India.
January 2023-Â Asian Paints integrated Asian Paints (Polymers), a fully owned subsidiary, on 11 January 2023 with the objective of building the latest production plant for Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) and Vinyl Acetate Ethylene Emulsion (VAE) in India with an official share capital of Rs 100 crore.
In June 2023, Wacker increased its capacity for VAE dispersions in South Korea due to rising demand from Asia-Pacific region.
A new series of high-performance adhesives and coatings were launched by Celanese in March 2023 using VAE emulsions.
Through Taipei Building Show last December 2022, Dairen presented its environmentally friendly products, such as VAE Powder and VAE Emulsion, used for building energy conservation, eco-friendly water-based paint, furniture decoration with other applications​
WACKER, a Munich-based chemical company, gave the Alexander Wacker Innovation Award for the year 2021 to an internal German-Chinese team that developed an exclusive process for producing vinyl acetate-ethylene (VAE) polymer dispersions
