US Medical Aesthetics Market Share Analysis
The increasing elderly population, rising prevalence of skin disorders, and the occurrence of hereditary skin diseases are contributing to the growing demand for anti-aging devices, particularly among middle-aged and elderly individuals. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the proportion of the population aged over 60 is expected to double from 12% to 22% between 2015 and 2050. Furthermore, the WHO predicts that by 2050, 80% of the elderly population will reside in low and middle-income countries. Notably, women in the elderly demographic are particularly concerned about aesthetics and body contour, with beauty standards exerting a significant influence.
As highlighted by a study from the Brazilian Journal of Geriatrics and Gerontology, women aged 60 and above perceive beauty in alignment with societal standards. The study also noted the dynamic expression of aesthetic preferences among elderly women based on their encounters with different aesthetic experiences. Consequently, the desire to meet societal beauty standards has propelled the use of anti-aging products and devices among this demographic, presenting a substantial opportunity for market players.
To cater to this demand, beauty device manufacturers have introduced a range of anti-aging devices designed to address concerns such as wounds, psoriasis, acne, and pain. Examples of these devices include Flex MD, Tripollar STOP VX, and Nuface Trinity. In addition to product innovation, manufacturers are actively engaging in product and brand launches to expand their presence in the anti-aging segment. For instance, in October 2020, Foreo, a Swedish company, introduced a new brand called FAQ, offering a diverse range of anti-aging devices. Similarly, in January 2021, Shiseido Company, Limited, and YA-MAN LTD., both based in Japan, jointly launched EFFECTIM Co., Ltd., a venture focused on the anti-aging segment. EFFECTIM Co., Ltd., provides cosmetics and beauty devices specifically designed to address aging-related concerns.
These strategic business initiatives are anticipated to drive the beauty device market in the foreseeable future, as they align with the increasing demand for anti-aging solutions among the aging population. The market is poised for growth as consumers seek effective and innovative devices to meet their evolving beauty needs, influenced by societal standards and personal preferences.
