October 2023- Siemens Energy will offer the technology for a facility located in Ireland, merging a battery energy storage system (BESS) and a synchronous condenser having a capacity of 160MWh. The Germany-headquartered energy technology business will offer the technology for the hybrid grid stabilization and large-scale battery storage facility at Shannonbridge in Ireland, the first time the two technologies have been merging with a single grid connection, as per the press release. It combines a synchronous condenser, incorporating a flywheel capable of inserting 4000MW of inertia into the grid, and a wide-scale BESS of 160MWh. The company is also set to offer energy management systems, medium voltage equipment, and power conversion systems. The net worth of the order is closely €85 million (USD90 million), and production has before commenced on the factory, which is in the Republic of Ireland, even though the island's energy market and electricity grid are normally deemed as one complete unit.
October 2023- Octopus Australia has acquired the Queensland-based Blackstone battery development project with a 1GWh storage capacity, one of Australia's largest battery systems, connected to the 275kV high voltage transmission network. The renewable energy developer and fund manager purchased the project from Firm Power, a battery energy storage systems (BESS) developer. Once operational, the project will store and dispatch 1GWh of electricity, supporting peak demand on the power grid and providing power to approximately 70,000 homes for one day. Octopus Australia is collaborating with Powerlink, Ipswich City Council, and Firm Power to complete the project, which is strategically located near Brisbane.
