Global Space Battery Market
On Sep. 24, 2023 the California-based startup EnerVenue announced the upgrade in its nickel-hydrogen batteries to comprise a NASA satellite battery tech for deployment in grid-scale energy-storage facilities. This space battery is designed to be tough, safe, and long-lasting. Nickel-hydrogen batteries can last for 30,000 charge cycles and are fireproof. They outperform lithium-ion batteries on several key metrics for energy storage at a large scale.
Apr. 11, 2023Â The US Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) awarded a three-year $2.55 MN grant to Penn State and Carnegie Mellon universities in the US and the Adolphe Merkle Institute of the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. This new project aims to develop a framework for designing and producing soft, self-charging, bio-inspired power sources for applications in space. AFOSR's project aims to create a new energy source capable of powering satellites and other space technologies.
On May 24, 2023Â Cirba Solutions, a leading provider of comprehensive battery materials and management processors, announced a collaboration with Volta Energy Technologies, LLC, to advance strategic focus in the battery materials space. The collaboration will help meet the growing demand for critical materials for their facilities. Volta's model connects innovators and companies to enable advances in batteries, storage, and related technologies for electric vehicles, power, and other applications.
On Dec. 10, 2022 The National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) and the U.K. Space Agency announced a collaboration to develop the world's first space battery powered by a nuclear-based fuel, Americium-241. This project will be carried out in a new laboratory in Cumbria, with cutting-edge machinery & technology and a £19 MN ($23 MN) investment.
