Amcor and coffee roaster Löfbergs have teamed up to introduce a single-material coffee packaging solution that is reportedly good for both chemical and mechanical recycling and a 55% reduction in carbon footprint.
The new bag was created in compliance with CEFLEX guidelines, has been approved for recycling by the Institut cyclos-HTP, and is purportedly recyclable throughout the majority of Europe. Purporting to maintain the taste and fragrance of the coffee it contains, it makes use of Amcor's AmPrima Recycle-Ready mono-material packaging solutions.
From the development phase to the recycling test, the companies worked together on every part of the pouch's design, so it is anticipated that the product will help them achieve their individual sustainability objectives.
Nescafé recently announced the launch of an instant coffee refill pouch that is reportedly the first of its kind. It is claimed to be an additional recyclable option with an average plastic content 60% lower than a glass coffee jar lid. AIMPLAS has produced a flexible packaging solution made of coffee grounds as part of their endeavour to increase the utilisation of urban biowaste in packaging.
