Hitachi Energy and BAM have been chosen as the preferred suppliers for the HVDC converter stations in the project by SSEN Transmission and National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET), marking another significant advancement in the construction of a new subsea electrical superhighway.
Through Eastern Green Link 2 (EGL2), a 2GW, 525kV high voltage direct current (HVDC) subsea transmission cable will be built between Peterhead, Scotland, and Drax, England. Â
As part of their partnership with BAM, Hitachi Energy will supply the engineering services and technology needed for the HVDC converter stations, which serve as the HVDC cable's terminals and change direct current into the alternating current needed for the onshore transmission network. Â

The first low-carbon distribution grid cables are being introduced by Nexans to the French market. The Group has been able to reduce the greenhouse gas emissions of its low- and medium-voltage cables from 35% to 50%, depending on the product, by taking a holistic approach all along the value chain and throughout the cable life cycle.
This offer is based on a promise to manufacture the cables using recycled plastic and low-carbon aluminum, as well as decarbonized or renewable energy sources. To enable all participants in the chain to track and minimize their carbon emissions, access to the CO2 data of these cables is ensured.
Cutting-edge cable solutions, like the EDRMAX medium voltage cable, can be buried without the need for a sand bed because of its reinforced sheath, which reduces the installation's CO2 emissions by 10%.
