October 2023- the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and the State Atomic Energy Corporation "Rosatom" " during the Russian Energy Week, agreed on the Memorandum of Understanding in the area of nuclear infrastructure valuation and augmentation. The agreement was inked by the Director General of Rosatom, Alexey Likhachev, and the Union Minister, Dr. Myo Thein Kyaw. Both parties strategize to define the present requirements for the growth of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar's nuclear infrastructure and draw up an operational strategy for precedence region foremost for the deployment of the small nuclear power facility development plan across the nation. The agreement states that the building of the nuclear facility will be performed as per the IAEA approaches and suggestions, as well as Rosatom's best practices.
February 2023- the Russian Federation and the Republic of the Union of Myanmar have agreed on an Intergovernmental Agreement on cooperation in the domain of the utilization of nuclear energy for calm resolutions. The ratification of the Intergovernmental Agreement is a vital achievement in building alliance between Myanmar and Russia on nuclear energy. The parties agreed on cooperation, aimed in particular at the implementation of the project for the construction of a small nuclear power plant (SNPP) on the territory of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Rosatom also actively cooperates with the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in the field of wind energy development, aiming to build 372 MW of wind energy. For one of the projects, a wind power potential assessment, a pre-design survey, and a feasibility study begin.
