November 2023- Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has joined hands with PhonePe and introduced digital QR-based ticketing for metro commuters. Chennai Metro riders can now avoid long lines at metro stations and ticket counters with smooth digital QR-based tickets. Riders can reserve digital QR-based tickets on the PhonePe Switch platform. This service will also provide the current 20 percent discount. PhonePe will make three services available for passengers in phases - booking of single trip tickets, round trip tickets, and topping up the smart card on PhonePe Switch.
October 2023- Norfolk Southern is implementing digital train inspection portals to improve rail safety throughout its system. The portals utilize machine vision inspection technology and were developed by Norfolk Southern’s Data Science/Artificial Intelligence and Mechanical teams in collaboration with the Georgia Tech Research Institution. The portals contain an array of 24-megapixel trackside cameras and stadium lighting. The machine vision inspection technology takes ultra-high-resolution, 360-degree images of passing railcars.
October 2023- The Pakistan Railway, working together with the University of Engineering Taxila, has introduced a 'Digital Railway Driving System' to help train operators more easily navigate rails during smoggy and foggy weather. This system is intended to avoid accidents and aid engineers in operating locomotives in dense fog and smog. According to a PR spokesperson, it will clearly display the track up to 700 meters ahead. The anti-fog apparatus was originally going to be installed in four engines, with intentions to steadily expand it to include all trains over the next year.
