Together, Nidec Corporation and Renesas Electronics Corporation will work on developing semiconductor solutions for the next generation of E-Axles, or X-in-1 systems, which combine an EV drive motor for electric cars and power electronics. The 3-in-1 E-Axle unit, which combines a motor, inverter, and gearbox (reduction gear), is becoming more and more common in modern EVs.
In order to jointly develop a highly dependable and high-performing proof of concept (PoC) for the X-in-1 system, the two companies decided to combine the motor technology of Nidec with the semiconductor technology of Renesas. The PoC is made to support the X-in-1 system's smaller size, lighter weight, and lower cost while maintaining the highest performance and efficiency in the industry.
By the end of 2023, the companies hope to introduce their first proof of concept (PoC), which will include a motor, inverter, gearbox, and an OBC in addition to a 6-in-1 system that includes a power distribution unit (PDU), motor, and DC-DC converter.
