Latest Americas Orthopedic Biomaterial Companies Update
Nov 2023: Using its SN heater and glow plug IP portfolio, Kyocera Corporation, a global leader in fine ceramic technology, unveiled a Silicon Nitride (SN) light source for high-performance Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometers. The SN heaters from Kyocera are thought to be the strongest and fastest-ramping heaters available. They are strong enough to be used as igniters for industrial boilers, household gas furnaces, solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs), and glow plugs for diesel engines. Kyocera's SN technology provides a light source with remarkable emissivity that can be used in spectrometry to enable more precise material identification. Furthermore, compared to traditional light source solutions, Kyocera's SN material's resilience leads to fewer failure rates, an extended duty cycle, and less maintenance downtime.
Oct 2023: Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is developing a nuclear microreactor test bed, and Materion Corporation, a leader in the world of advanced materials solutions, has signed a contract of purchase to supply beryllium and beryllium oxide materials. The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Microreactor Applications Research Validation and Evaluation Project, among other microreactor research initiatives, will be aided by this test bed. In 2023, the acquisition agreement will go into effect. Under development, MARVEL is an experimental microreactor that uses sodium and potassium cooling to explore control technologies and microreactor applications. In addition, a range of electrical and nonelectrical uses, such as water purification, low-grade heat production for district heating, and greenhouse climate management, will be tested for microreactor capabilities.
