Coveris, an Austrian packaging company, has announced the introduction of Unterland R and Unterland Crystal, two new eco-friendly stretch films for wrapping silage bales. The new stretch films will be unveiled at the upcoming Agritechnica 2023 trade exhibition for agricultural machinery, which takes place in Hannover, Germany, from November 12–18.
Both films are produced at Coveris' Kufstein facility in Austria using "only" renewable resources with the goal of providing increased sustainability benefits. The Unterland R solution from Coveris is a multilayered stretch film that is produced with at least 30% recycled material, mostly from agricultural films that were gathered as part of the ERDE program.
This will further enable farmers to protect the environment and reduce their overall carbon footprint by 23 percent. According to the company, it created the new stretch films in response to the growing demand from its agricultural market clients for environmentally friendly baling solutions.

As a leader in sustainable packaging and paper worldwide, Mondi is assisting farmers in growing their crops by working with Cotesi, a manufacturer of twine, nets, and ropes for the agricultural industry derived from synthetic and natural raw materials, to replace traditional plastic mulch film with Advantage Kraft Mulch, a paper alternative.
Crops are shielded by mulching films from sunlight, rain, weeds, and birds. Traditionally, these films are made of plastic, which is rolled out for planting, removed, and disposed of after harvest. With no plastic or coating, Mondi's Advantage Kraft Mulch offers a sustainable substitute for paper. It is made entirely of kraft paper that is sourced ethically and isn't coated.
