Roche’s Multiple Sclerosis newcomer, Ocrevus, obtained FDA approval last March with a warning on immunization; now, clinical data compiled by researchers shows that it can interfere with the effectiveness of certain vaccines. In a phase 3b study funded by Roche, scientists examined immune responses to tetanus, seasonal flu, and pneumococcal vaccines as well as neoantigen keyhole limpet hemocyanin in over 100 MS patients who were either on or not on Ocrevus. It happened that patients under ocrelizumab had lower vaccine-induced immunity across the board. The percentage of treated subjects whose antibody titers for tetanus reached protective levels was 24% versus 55% in those without Ocrevus. For seroprotective titers against five influenza strains (ranging from 75% to 97%) and (55.6% -80%), respectively
