January 2023
Teijin Limited (hereinafter Teijin) and Fujitsu Limited announced the start of a collaborative project to increase the environmental value of recycled resources in the production of bicycle frames. The project will run from January to March 2023 and will involve V Frames GmbH, a German manufacturer and distributor of carbon fiber reinforced plastic bicycle frames, and E-Bike Advanced Technologies GmbH (hereinafter Advanced Bikes), a German bicycle manufacturer.
During the trial period, Teijin and Fujitsu plan to employ a blockchain-based commercial platform, which was unveiled in July 2022, to incentivize the bicycle industry, which is environmentally conscious, to use recycled materials sustainably and to monitor and control greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
Teijin is a distinct company that operates in three main business areas: pharmaceuticals, home healthcare equipment for respiratory, cardiovascular, and metabolic diseases, nursing care, and pre-symptomatic healthcare; high-performance materials, such as aramid, carbon fibers, and composites; and resin and plastic processing, films, polyester fibers, and product conversion.
October 2023
The largest apparel company in the world, Inditex, which owns Zara, has committed to purchasing recycled polyester from a U.S. start-up in order to meet its 2030 goal of having 25% of its fibers come from "next-generation" materials.
Inditex is investing more than 70 million euros ($74 million) to secure supply of its recycled polyester made from textile waste from Los Angeles-based Ambercycle, as fast-fashion retailers are under pressure to use recycled fabrics and reduce waste.
Sportswear frequently uses polyester fibers, a byproduct of the petroleum industry, because they dry quickly and are strong.Â
Major players in the Synthetic Fibers market, including Lenzing AG, Toyobo Co. Ltd, Bombay Dyeing Inc., Reliance Industries Limited, Toray Chemical Korea, Inc., TEIJIN LIMITED, China Petrochemical Corporation, Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, DuPont, and Indorama Corporation, are attempting to increase market demand by investing in research and development operations.
