On Oct. 13, 2023 Naval Group, a French shipbuilder, announced the updates on its Scorpene submarine proposal to Indonesia. Naval Group is proposing a new variant of its Scorpene submarine featuring Lithium-Ion battery technology. The new Scorpene Evolved Li-Ion Submarine will be used in Philippine waters. The submarine's propulsion system will be installed with a full Lithium-Ion Batteries (LIBs) configuration, giving it the longest endurance. In February 2022, France and Indonesia signed a MoU for two Scorpene submarines.
On Oct. 10, 2023Â Hanwha Ocean announced that it has embarked on developing unmanned submersibles, leveraging its highly recognized submarine construction technological capabilities. The company has been selected by the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) for the energy system prototype project. Hanwha Ocean is designing and manufacturing the fuel cell system for the KSS-III (Jangbogo III) class submarines.
On Sep. 28 Taiwan launched its first domestically made, diesel-electric submarine at a shipyard in the southwest city of Kaohsiung. With a heavyweight Mk-48 torpedo that can rip through ships & subs, Taiwan's homemade submarine boosts the island's naval combat capabilities. The vessel's ability to carry a powerful heavyweight torpedo capable of defeating ships and submarines is an eye-catching feature.
On Jun. 22, 2023Â Larsen & Toubro announced signing a contract with the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) on two Air Independent Propulsion (AIP) System Modules for the Kalvari Class of submarines of the Indian Navy. The AIP Modules have been indigenously developed by the Naval Materials Research Laboratory (NMRL). The AIP Modules will be manufactured, integrated, and tested in L&T's Surat facility.
