Aug. 28, 2023- Macom announced the completion of its acquisition of Wolfspeed's RF business product lines, including LDMOS for 5G below 2.5GHz. Wolfspeed will keep its SiC substrate and GaN epitaxial services businesses. Wolfspeed's RF engineering capabilities, technology & products are a perfect fit with MACOM and its strategy. Considering the significant growth in automotive, industrial, and renewable energy markets, this acquisition comes at the right time, allowing Macom to focus on scaling its Power device and materials businesses to meet this accelerated demand.
Jun. 13, 2023- WIN Semiconductors, a leading pure-play compound semiconductor foundry, announced the commercial release of a 50V 0.25µm-gate RF gallium nitride (GaN) platform, NP25-20. The new 50V RF GaN technology is intended for high-performance front-end applications, such as radio access networks, satellite communications, and electronic warfare & radar systems. The NP25-20 technology supports full MMICs to enable WIN customers to design compact, linear/saturated high-power amplifiers, rugged low-noise amplifiers, and single-chip front-end solutions through 18GHz.
May 24, 2023- Start-up QPT announced its successful venture in RF design techniques. QPT has been concentrating on single-phase and three-phase hard-switching mains power to make modules for GaN-based power supplies that implement all of the RF design, allowing experienced power supply designers to make high-performance GaN-based designs without RF or microwave expertise and without buying GHz instrumentation.
Feb. 17, 2023- US-headquartered Tagore Technology announced its plan to strengthen its presence in India's semiconductor market. India is expected to witness the $1 trillion semiconductor opportunity in 2030, and some leading foundries will participate in the second round. The Indian government has extended a flat 50% incentive for setting up compound fabs in the country. Therefore, to capitalize on India for the production of its Gallium nitride (GaN) chips, the company will be dependent on the foundry partner.
