On Aug.21, 2023, The University of Southern Indiana launched a robotic delivery partnership with Kiwibot via Grubhub to expand its range of delivery options. Introducing Kiwibot robots will revolutionize convenience for the university's busy students and employees. Starship Technologies rolled out its food delivery bots at Kansas Wichita State University and Angelo State University.
On May 30, 2023, Uber Technologies Inc. and startup Serve Robotics Inc. announced their plan to deploy up to 2,000 food delivery robots to help transport restaurant orders to consumers. The delivery robots supplied by Serve Robotics can carry up to 50 pounds of merchandise weight for around 25 miles on a single charge. San Francisco-based Serve Robotics raised $23 million in funding in March 2022.
According to Serve Robotics, its technology provides a more efficient way of delivering food than traditional vehicles. Their compact chassis allows them to travel on sidewalks alongside pedestrians. These robots are powered by compute devices from Nvidia's Jetson line of systems on Jetson modules, integrating with a central processing unit, a graphics card, memory, and related components into a single circuit board.
On Feb.26, 2023, Kiwibot announced securing $10 MN to expand its restaurant food delivery robots fleet. Kiwibot has been making significant strides in the industry. The $10 million financing partnership with asset financing group Kineo Finance brings the total funding to $24 million. This latest financing agreement aims to grow Kiwibot's robotic fleet and disrupt the delivery-as-a-service (DaaS) industry. The new funds will help with the company's manufacturing and scaling needs.
On Feb.16, 2023, TALABAT launched three food delivery robots in Dubai Silicon Oasis in partnership with the Integrated Economic Zones Authority and The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority. The robots, also known as talabots, will travel within a three-kilometer radius within this gated community, aiming to deliver food in 15 minutes.
The robots do not have any facial recognition features and will protect people's identities by blurring their faces. With built-in sensors and algorithms, the robots can navigate the surroundings and detect barriers in their pathway while maintaining a safe distance from toddlers and pets.
