A mineral refrigeration oil that is compatible with most refrigerants has been introduced by a Japanese lubricating oil manufacturer.
The Japan Sun Oil Co. of Tokyo is said to have developed Sunice Hybrid, which can be used with HFC and HFO refrigerants. In particular, R32, R134a, R404A, R407C, R410A, R407H, R449A, R454C, R513A, R1234ze, and R1234yf are mentioned. The manufacturer states that while it is "not recommended" to use with R290 (propane) and R600a (isobutane), it can also be used with CO2. However, it cannot be used with ammonia.
Furthermore, thanks to its compatibility with POE, PAG, and PVE oils, Sunice Hybrid can be utilized in almost any installation, independent of the compressor or evaporation temperature. Two viscosities are offered: 32 and 46.
The product is said to have good lubricity and chemical stability thanks to a patented technology that guarantees good oil return. Japan Sun Oil contends that having just one oil will make inventory management easier and that it won't be impacted by unforeseen shortages of synthetic oils because mineral oil is the main component.
