Together with the manufacturer Kone, Laing O'Rourke has developed a modular lift system that, according to the firms, will speed up on-site installation. The standard recommendation for lift installation is one week per floor. A three-story lift module may be installed by project teams using the new method in approximately 90 minutes.
A solution that was first employed on cruise ships about ten years prior was advanced by Laing O'Rourke and Kone in 2020 on Building S5 in King's Cross.
During the installation of the shafts, workers are not inconvenienced by the typical number of deliveries or the proliferation of exclusion zones. This is due to the fact that volumetric frames are made off-site before being built, packaged, safeguarded, and stored in preparation for delivery on site.
With a long-standing offsite strategy, Laing O'Rourke hopes to have 90% of its construction work completed in factories by 2025.
