The "largest ever 3D printed parts order" will be fulfilled by Merit3D, a Utah-based manufacturer of 3D printed parts.
Back in May, Adhesive Technology Corporation, a Florida-based adhesives manufacturer, placed an order for more than a million 3D printed parts. The parts in question are epoxy product hangers, which are used to fasten the epoxy tube's mixing nozzle to it. Forty thousand pieces of these components are delivered each week.
With funding from the $10 million Utah Manufacturing Modernization Grant, Merit3D was able to fulfil this mass production order. The purpose of this programme is to encourage manufacturers in Utah to modernise and expand their operations within the US state.
This agreement with Adhesive Technology Corporation is a component of Merit3D's continuous effort to bring mass production of parts back to the United States. The funding will boost Merit3D's ability to 3D print parts at a reasonable cost, enabling the business to compete with foreign producers. Â
Adhesive Technology Corporation was unable to maintain its supply chain because an injection mould tool was unavailable, so it turned to Merit3D. Â
