August 2023: The RNA technology startup Mirxes Pte Ltd, with headquarters in Singapore, has a wholly owned subsidiary called Mirxes Corporation USA. They recently announced that their flagship product, GASTROClearTM, an in vitro diagnostic test for early detection of gastric (stomach) cancer that uses PCR, has been granted Breakthrough Device Designation by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The FDA Breakthrough Device Designation was bestowed to GASTROClear, the world's first gastric cancer molecular test, and the first miRNA blood test. The GASTROClearTM molecular blood test is the first of its kind, allowing doctors and patients to take preventative measures long before the disease manifests itself. A seven-year public-private cooperation between Singaporean doctors and scientists resulted in the development and manufacturing of GASTROClearTM. Following prospective clinical validation in over 5,200 patients in Singapore, GASTROClearTM was initially authorized by the Singapore Health Science Authority (HSA) in 2019.
April 2023: An extra 240 mg strength pill of the prostate cancer medication ERLEADA (apalutamide) is now available in the US, according to Janssen Pharmaceutical Companies of Johnson & Johnson. For individuals with metastatic castration-sensitive prostate cancer (mCSPC) or non-metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (nmCRPC), the androgen receptor inhibitor (ARI) Erleada is an approved therapeutic option. An option for patients to take the medicine once daily in single tablet form has been introduced with the release of the higher potency pill. The medicine used to be available exclusively in 60 mg tablets, four of which were required to be taken per day. The availability of two strengths of Erleada, 240 mg and 60 mg, shows Janssen's dedication to men with prostate cancer and gives doctors more leeway to tailor dose and administration to the specific requirements of their patients.
