October 2023 -BHS Corrugated Maschinen- und Anlagenbau GmbH and Highcon Systems Ltd on October 16th jointly announced a Strategic Partnership expected to have far-reaching implications for the digitalization of the corrugated packaging market. October 2023- Visy, A Packaging and resource-recovery organization, has disclosed a new corrugated cardboard box facility in Hemmant, Queensland, Australia. With a capacity to produce nearly a million boxes per day, the latest AUSD175m (USD111m) factory will manufacture cardboard boxes for food and beverage companies, as well as growers and farmers in Queensland.

June 2023: WestRock announced that it would acquire Sonoco Products' corrugated packaging business for $1.4 billion. The acquisition is expected to make WestRock the largest corrugated packaging company in North America.

April 2022: DS Smith, a UK-based sustainable packaging provider, developed and launched a corrugated cardboard box for e-commerce shipments of medical devices. This new corrugated cardboard box features a single-material solution in place of glued packaging with a single-use plastic insert.

July 2022: WestRock Co., a US-based containerboard and packaging manufacturer, announced that it entered into an agreement to acquire the remaining interest in Grupo Gondi for USD 970 million, plus the assumption of debt. According to the WestRock, upon completion of the transaction, the company would further enhance its position in the growing Latin American containerboard and consumer and corrugated packaging markets, as Grupo Gondi operates nine corrugated packaging plants, four paper mills, and six high graphic plants throughout Mexico.

Menasha Packaging Company LLC, which is Menasha Corporation ‘s subsidiary, announced having signed an agreement for the purchase of assets of the Color-Box business unit being part of Georgia-Pacific LLC in February 2022. Just like Menasha Packaging, Color-Box specializes in manufacturing high-graphic boxes; therefore, this will expand our geographic coverage, thereby enabling some space for more graphics, designs as well and structural packaging options meant for our clients after successfully completing this acquisition.

Smurfit Kappa Group completed the acquisition of Verzuolo in October 2021. In addition to existing strategic operational facilities around Port Savona, it converted PM9 machines into 661,387 tons of recycled containerboard machines in 2019. Both the company and its customer base benefit from this.

Rengo Co., Ltd., in September 2021, announced that Vina Kraft Paper Co., Ltd., which is its joint venture in Vietnam, has decided to construct a new containerboard production facility. This was as per the country’s annual consumption of over three million tons for containerboard considering the FDI inflows mainly for exports as well as expanding local demand observed in Vietnam during 2019.
