November 2023- NXP Semiconductors announced the Trimension NCJ29D6, a fully integrated automotive single-chip Ultra-Wideband (UWB) family combining next-generation secure and precise real-time localization with short-range radar to address multiple use cases with a single system, including secure car access, child presence detection, intrusion alert, gesture recognition and more. Integrated by major automotive OEMs, devices from this family are expected to be on the road in model year 2025 vehicles. Part of one of the industry's broadest UWB portfolios, the new family includes the highly integrated NCJ29D6B, the next-generation UWB device for secure car access, delivering enhanced ranging performance, reduced system costs, higher security, and turn-key software. The family also includes the pin-to-pin compatible NCJ29D6A, the industry's first automotive device combining both ranging and short-range UWB radar into a single chip with an integrated MCU.
November 2023- Lumissil has announced the launch of its 3rd generation of capacitive sensing innovations that are setting new benchmarks in detection reliability for touch keys and proximity.  Capacitive touch sensing originated in the 1960s with applications like touch-sensitive elevator buttons and saw significant advancements in the 1980s with the development of multi-touch sensors. The 1990s ushered in commercialization with laptops like the Apple PowerBook featuring capacitive trackpads. This technology has since permeated various devices, from automobiles to home appliances, and has evolved with innovations such as underwater operation and pressure sensitivity; today, capacitive touch is an indispensable part of modern user interfaces and continues to shape our technological interactions. Capacitive touch buttons are favored for their sleek, modern aesthetics and enhanced user experience, as they allow for a seamless and button-free surface that is resistant to wear and tear. Using capacitive sensing for proximity detection is also growing in popularity. Examples of such applications include automotive door handles that detect people walking up to turn on lights or switch on exterior cameras for security purposes. In the industrial market, heavy machinery uses proximity detection in large tools to enhance safety by ensuring an operator is present. Â
