    • May 2023: Ascertain, a healthcare AI company formation platform established by Aegis Ventures and Northwell Health last year, has now launched its first startup. With a $12 million initial venture investment, Optain, a startup headquartered in New York, is an artificial intelligence company whose mission is to facilitate earlier disease detection and prevention via retinal imaging.  The largest health system in New York, Northwell Health, collaborated with startup studio Aegis Ventures to develop the Ascertain healthcare AI company creation platform.  With a $12 million initial venture investment, Optain, headquartered in New York, is an artificial intelligence (AI) firm whose mission is to facilitate earlier disease detection and prevention via retinal imaging. A retinal camera captures images of the eye, which are analyzed by the organization's AI. These examinations are designed to detect diseases of the entire body, not just those affecting the eyes.




    • July 2023: The Center for Ophthalmic Artificial Intelligence and Human Health, established by the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in July 2023, is the inaugural facility of its kind in New York and among the pioneering in the United States. The Center's primary objective is to propel the progress of artificial intelligence (AI) within the domain of ophthalmology, thereby enhancing the Mount Sinai Health System's standing as a frontrunner in delivering patient care via groundbreaking technologies and innovations. The Center, in collaboration with the Windreich Department of Artificial Intelligence and Human Health at Icahn Mount Sinai, seeks to promote scientific understanding of cardiovascular and neurological disorders that have a significant impact on patient health while advancing clinical innovation in AI-based diagnostic care for ophthalmology and population-based medical care.
