March 2022: an 18,891dwt Pure Car Carrier (PCC) received an application of Nippon Paint Marine's ground-breaking antifouling technology FASTAR, making this ship type the fourth to receive the novel nanodomain coating. Since its introduction in January of this year, the high-performing, self-polishing antifouling technology has been installed on more than 60 ships, including bulk carriers, chemical carriers, VLCCs, containerships, passenger vessels, and PCCs. During a recent drydocking at a shipyard in Shanghai, FASTAR I, a self-polishing antifouling paint, was applied to the 196m long ship's flat bottom, vertical bottom, and boot-top, covering a 7800m3 underwater area. One coat of FASTAR and one coat of anti-corrosive paint were deemed adequate to meet the unidentified vessel's 36-month drydocking schedule.
