Increase in Number of LNG Trucks in China in 2024

By Shubhendra Anand , 10 October, 2024

China is taking necessary measures to limit carbon emissions in the environment. The nation is proactively producing electric vehicles to support the clean energy transition. China aims to be the leader in electric vehicle production and sales from its nation-owned company in 2024. Additionally, liquified natural gas (LNG) trucks are emerging as a new trend to support emissions norms of 2024. LNG is known to produce less carbon emissions than fossil fuels. Hence, China is adopting LNG in its heavy-duty trucks to avoid using diesel, which makes more harmful emissions.

According to surveys in 2024, passenger electric cars in China are gaining momentum to support green energy. However, China's automotive industry suggests that with the help of LNG, emissions can be limited, too. Therefore, China's LNG-fueled heavy-duty vehicles will be part of less emission vehicles in 2024. China is bent on reducing harmful emissions from its transportation sector. Hence, the country will adopt LNG-fueled heavy-duty vehicles in 2024. LNG also causes emissions but is much less than fossil fuels. The survey reports suggest that LNG trucks in China have increased by 50 percent at the beginning of 2024. It is found in transportation and logistics companies where heavy-duty vehicles are needed.

Moreover, these companies invest in LNG infrastructure, including storage and fueling stations. China expects significant results from incorporating LNG into the transportation sector. The nation expects fewer emissions from LNG-fueled vehicles to support the clean energy transition.

Several factors contribute to LNG adoption in the transportation sector of China in 2024. Experts claim that LNG-powered vehicles can reduce carbon emissions by ten million tons annually. LNG is also cheaper than diesel, making it a better alternative to fossil fuels. The affordability of electric vehicles is a concern as the infrastructure needs to be strong enough to maintain them. However, LNG suits a range of consumers in the nation. Therefore, there has been a surge in LNG-fueled trucks in China since the beginning of 2024.
