Asia-Pacific Emerges as the Leading Nation in Carbon Capture

By Shubhendra Anand , 14 August, 2024

Carbon Capture in Asia-Pacific Insight

Carbon storage or carbon sequestration process is a new phenomenon developed by nations to enhance clean energy transition. This process incorporates capturing carbon emissions from different sources in the environment. Hence, environmental carbon capture can efficiently reduce the emissions rate from transportation, industries, and others to tackle climate change conditions. Research on carbon storage shows that Asia-Pacific is the emerging region in carbon capture and storage in 2024. Carbon storage is an effective way to mitigate climate change. Therefore, several nations in the Asia-Pacific region are moving fast with carbon capture method in 2024.

According to the survey conducted in 2024, countries like Indonesia, Malaysia, and Australia are emerging countries for carbon capture. These three countries in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region are regarded as the hub spots for the carbon sequestration process. Due to the green transformation, the sustainability approach in the APAC region focuses on the decarbonization process. Hence, carbon capture is an advanced technique to lower the carbon emissions rate in the environment. The carbon capture method includes capturing carbon dioxide from different sources, such as industries, power plants, transportation, and others. Thus, the process of carbon helps to restrict the carbon from entering the atmosphere. Different carbon capture methods can help industries gain momentum in reducing carbon emissions. Carbon dioxide can be stored underground by injecting it into depleting oil and gas fields, coal steams, and others. Carbon capture in the oil and gas fields can increase production levels. Indonesia, Malaysia, and Australia use the same method for depleting oil reservoirs, making them the leading nations in carbon capture.

Carbon capture would help to make the atmosphere carbon neutral by balancing carbon emissions. With the growing demand for reducing carbon emissions in the environment, the carbon capture method has emerged as a leading industry. It may support the nations economically by producing jobs in the region. Simultaneously, it helps countries become carbon neutral.
