Advance Nuclear Technology Boosts Electricity and Accelerates Clean Energy Transition

By Shubhendra Anand , 28 October, 2024

Nuclear technology is gaining momentum in the energy sector as it provides a consistent power supply. Hence, the energy sector is preparing to boost the advanced nuclear energy production rate in 2024. Developed nations like the United States, France, and China are investing in nuclear energy development. Therefore, several well-established multinationals are keen on investing in nuclear energy technologies. Many well-known nuclear energy companies are receiving funding from the group of tech companies and their officials in 2024.

Experts claim big techs are investing billions in renewable energy to power their data centers. Technological companies depend on artificial intelligence and its applications. This leads to a consistent demand for electricity as artificial intelligence needs high-power computing in data centers. Hence, a constant supply of electricity is necessary for the data centers. Even if the energy sector of different economies is enhancing their renewable energy sources like wind and solar, it depends 90 percent on the climatic conditions. The rest of the mechanism is up to the production infrastructure. Therefore, companies are investing in nuclear energy plants for technical innovation.

Nuclear power companies are investing heavily in the infrastructure to make nuclear a pivotal component in the green energy transition. The newest technical and structural changes in nuclear reactors make them more prominent. New reactors in nuclear technology are designed to be smaller, more concise, and more efficient. These small nuclear reactors can be paired with other renewable sources. These small nuclear reactors are more efficient and budget-friendly as well. Companies are using 3D printing to develop nuclear components in 2024 to make complex designs to help create prototypes.

Additionally, the latest nuclear systems use molten salt coolant as an alternative to water. Nuclear power plants need to cool down, so a lot of water is used in them. Therefore, the newly devised coolant will save water. Some nuclear reactors plan to induce high-temperature gas coolants as an alternative to water.

TerraPower is one such nuclear company focusing on the latest technologies to increase the production levels of nuclear energy in 2024. Recent survey information shows that the former chief of Microsoft promotes nuclear energy through TerraPower. This indicates that the tech sector believes nuclear power is a sustainable solution and a better alternative to coal.
