Nov 2023:Eli Lilly and Company's ZepboundTM (tirzepatide) injectable was accepted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This is the first and only obesity medication that stimulates GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) hormone receptors. Adults who are overweight (BMI of 27 kg/m2 or higher), obese (BMI of 30 kg/m2 or higher), or who have weight-related medical conditions (hypertension, dyslipidemia, type 2 diabetes mellitus, obstructive sleep apnea, cardiovascular disease) may benefit from using Zepbound to help them lose weight and keep it off. It should be combined with a diet that is low in calories and more exercise. Zepbound has not been evaluated in patients with a history of pancreatitis or severe gastrointestinal disorders, such as severe gastroparesis. It should also not be used with other products containing tirzepatide or GLP-1 receptor agonist medications.

Jan 2023: CeQur Simplicity, a Swiss manufacturer of medical devices, is to invest $20 million to start production in Lexington County. To bring the manufacture of its diabetic insulin patch to South Carolina, the company is entering into a deal with Flex, a multinational manufacturing corporation with its headquarters in Singapore and an industrial park in Lexington County close to Columbia Metropolitan Airport. From Boston to Greenville, the firm moved its North American headquarters. Flex is moving its R&D and manufacturing operations to its West Columbia plant from its Tijuana, Mexico, location. At the meeting on February 8, Lexington County Council is considering reducing property taxes for manufacturers from 10 percent to 6 percent as compensation for CeQur's investment.
