Evonik and the US EPA have reached a settlement over the company's violations of the allowed levels of ethylene oxide and ethylene glycol emissions at its Reserve facility. It's anticipated that the settlement will cut annual emissions of dangerous air pollutants by 5.6 tonnes. According to Evonik's revised emissions calculations as part of ongoing emission reduction projects, emissions were higher than allowed. Evonik stopped the corresponding operations as soon as the emissions calculations were finished.Â
For the facility's truck loading docks, Evonik will design and implement a vapour recovery system to direct air pollutants and vapours that currently vent to the atmosphere towards the permanent flare, the thermal oxidizer, as well as new control devices. By December 31, 2026, the project is expected to be finished.
January 2023
Norway's Aker Solutions will upgrade the Petrojarl Knarr floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) so that it can be redeployed to Equinor's Rosebank field development offshore the United Kingdom.
Petrojarl Knarr was built in South Korea by Samsung Heavy Industries and delivered in 2014. It operated on the Knarr field offshore Norway from May 2015 to May 2022.
For redeployment in difficult waters, the Petrojarl Knarr FPSO is a great ship. It is a relatively new and modern asset that was designed to support electrification, which would reduce operating CO2 emissions, as well as extra features like a vapour recovery system and closed flare on the FPSO. There is space designated for electrical equipment on the ship's deck and mooring turret.
