Industry Developments:
Oct. 12, 2023- Nokia, a global telecom gear and equipment maker, announced that its Chennai, India, factory has marked a significant achievement, producing seven million telecom units. The factory is one of Nokia's largest worldwide, manufacturing telecom infrastructure equipment for 4G/5G networks for domestic and global markets.
It has bolstered telecom equipment manufacturing in India for fifteen years. The factory produces various telecom equipment, including 5G massive MIMO products, 5G New Radio (5G NR), 4G/LTE radios, and Fiber Broadband equipment. In 2023, the factory increased 5G equipment manufacturing and component localization, contributing to the 'Make in India' initiative.
Feb.09, 2023- Nokia announced that it is extending its fiber broadband equipment manufacturing in India. The company will be extending PON optical line terminals (OLTs) manufacturing in its Sriperimbudur factory, Chennai. The move follows the increasing demand for broadband in the country and the international markets. More and more people are relying on broadband for work from home and to get access to OTT content.
Sep.15, 2023- Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) announced its plan to promote 5G equipment developed in India on international markets. In 2021, the company acquired a local telecom equipment producer, Tejas Networks, to promote locally built and manufactured 5G radio network gear and address supply chain problems. TCS is trying to enter international markets, particularly the US. The N78 5G radios designed by Tejas Networks may be qualified for all greenfield and brownfield 5G opportunities globally.
Aug. 05, 2023- Ericsson opened a 5G gear manufacturing facility in Penang, Malaysia, in partnership with Flex. The 5G radio equipment range includes Ericsson's Massive MIMO antenna-integrated radios.
