Over one million smart water metres will connect to a new Siemens data management platform by 2030, under a new agreement between Siemens Grid Software and Northumbrian Water Group (NWG), a company based in the UK.
The EnergyIP MDM X platform will connect the metre points as a result of the agreement between the leading clean technology business and the British water holdings company. This will improve the Group's capacity to identify and minimise residential water leaks. Â
With the aid of Siemens' Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) solution, Essex & Suffolk Water, a utility that provides services to 4.5 million people in the North East of England and the South East, will be able to analyse water metre data to spot anomalies in household consumption patterns and notify customers of possible leaks on their properties.

In a ground-breaking move, Honeywell has launched its Next Generation Cellular Module (NXCM) enabling Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI), a system that converts conventional gas and water metres into smart ones without the need for new infrastructure. With the help of this ground-breaking module, metres can be wirelessly connected via the current public cellular networks, improving monitoring, security, and analytics capabilities for utility companies and their customers.
The NXCM assists utility providers in collecting information from gas and water metres, enhancing operational effectiveness, lowering expenses, and giving customers precise use statistics. Utility companies can take advantage of smart metre technology by retrofitting existing metres with the NXCM without having to make large specialised infrastructure investments that would result in higher installation and maintenance costs.
