Intelligent power management company, Eaton has constructed a new electrical plant at its manufacturing base in Puducherry as it prepares for vigorous business expansion in India. Modern manufacturing lines are set up in the new facility to produce MCCBs (Moulded Case Circuit Breakers) and ACBs (Air Circuit Breakers) to meet the demands of the power industry.
With the completion of a new block spanning around 40,000 square feet, that houses its largest shop floor at the Sedarapet manufacturing site, Eaton plans to quadruple the capacity of its medium voltage assembly lines while adding state-of-the-art infrastructure. The development of a new factory is consistent with the way the company has organically expanded over a decade or so by expanding its production base to satisfy increasing demands.
The ₹100-crore plant upgrade is aimed to help sustain the 30% annual growth record, cater to the addition of new products (ACBs and MCCBs) to its product line and align with the long-term plan based on macro market trend forecasts and developing technology needs.
Catering to the electrical sector both in power distribution and power quality, the company has aligned itself to the megatrends of energy transition and digitalization to serve various segments of customers — industrial, residential, infrastructure, utilities, data centers and OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers).
As per the International Energy Agency (IEA), the world’s most populated country - China, APAC, is likely to install 36% of worldwide hydroelectricity generation capacity and 40% of all global wind energy between 2015-and 2021. China currently has over 259,000 MW of new coal plants in various stages of development and accounts for more than 1/3 of the global coal plant pipeline. Both China and India are holding a significant share of the world’s industrial sector, mainly the energy-intensive manufacturing sector. While China’s industrial energy consumption is the highest globally at a 29% share of the global industrial energy consumption in 2018, India is rapidly catching up with a steady increase in its industrial sector.
