August 2023- Chinese researchers from the National University of Défense Technology in Changsha have announced a major advancement in laser weaponry. The scientists claim to have designed a cooling system that allows high-powered lasers to fire continuously without overheating. This breakthrough could enable laser weapons to produce unlimited laser beams without any drop in performance. China is developing these high-energy lasers to take down targets such as drones, missiles, and aircraft. With their ability to hit moving targets at the speed of light, laser weapons are incredibly effective countermeasures. The Chinese researchers' innovative cooling technology is a huge step forward that could make laser weapons viable for unlimited use.

August 2023- The defence contractor Northrop Grumman has provided its compact "Phantom" high-power laser weapon system to the United States government. This laser device, which is about the size of a small refrigerator, can generate 10 kilowatts of energy output. It is intended to be rapidly set up in tactical circumstances. The US government will combine it with other components for evaluation and then supply it to the military branches. The laser can safeguard vital infrastructure from a range of dangers like hostile unmanned aerial vehicles, rockets, artillery fire, and mortar rounds.

July 2023- The defence contractor Lockheed Martin has revealed plans to develop its strongest military laser weapon to date. The company intends to boost the power output of its present 300-kilowatt laser system to 500 kilowatts. This would represent a major increase over Lockheed's current laser technology and would surpass the capabilities of other laser weapons either deployed or in development today. The decision highlights a key principle of modern laser weaponry: greater laser power leads to faster destructive effects. By scaling up the power of its laser system, Lockheed aims to achieve quicker results in disabling or destroying targets.
