The Gravi-TechTM Density Modified Formulations portfolio of Avient Corporation has been expanded to include more environmentally friendly grades that maintain performance while using recycled and bio-based resin and/or filler. Using specific metallic fillers and thermoplastic resin, first-generation Gravi-Tech Density Modified Formulations were created to emulate the opulent appearance, weight, and feel of die-cast or machined metals. These are an affordable substitute for metal, with potential uses in high-end packaging and consumer goods such as decorative knobs and grips for furniture, appliances, and automotive applications, as well as caps and closures for cosmetics, bottle caps, and spirit boxes.
Avient is introducing two new sustainable solutions to its Gravi-Tech Density Modified Formulations product line in response to OEMs and consumers' growing demand for environmentally friendly materials in the packaging industry. Recycled resin and/or filler from post-industrial recycled (PIR) and/or post-consumer recycled (PCR) sources are the foundation of the first, Gravi-TechTM REC Recycled Formulations. The bio-based resin in the second, Gravi-TechTM BIO Bio-based Formulations, comes from plant sources that are renewable. Both are designed to function similarly to traditional density-modified solutions while requiring less virgin thermoplastics, thereby promoting the circular economy and lowering carbon emissions in comparison to alternatives made of fossil feedstock resin.
