October 2023- Eco Stor, a German-Norwegian organization, has released additional 300MW/600MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) plan in Germany, with formation strategized for the end of 2024. The BESS project is being built in the Wittlich in Rhineland-Palatinate town, neighboring to the Wengerohr substation in the grid of transmission system operator (TSO)Â Amprion. The plan is named 'ECO POWER FOUR', fragment of Eco Stor's 'ECO POWER' sequence of high-scale BESS plans for which it is handling all aspects of the project lifecycle and value chain with the exclusion of route-to-market, as per the statement released by managing director Georg Gallmetzer.
This involves procurement & construction (EPC), project development, the energy management system (EMS), operation and maintenance (O&M), asset management, financing (with partners), engineering, and BESS technology development. The development will require some €250 million (USD263 million) of funding. It indicated ECO POWER THREE in July, an identically sized system pointed for conclusion in 2025 at a site in Saxony-Anhalt. So, with ECO POWER THREE, ECO POWER FOUR will comprise six of the enterprise's ECO STOR ES-50C block designs, every one of which has an energy storage capacity of 50MW/100MWh. Every block also includes 32 containers, 16 containers for the inverters & transformers, and a 110kV substation of lithium-ion batteries. ECO POWER ONE is a 200MWh system in Bollingstedt, which is also under advancement, and the association will disclose others step by step, Gallmetzer added.
