September 2023- The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has disclosed a provisional exemption for diesel gensets that have not yet transitioned to clean fuel from the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) restrictions. The decision arrives precisely two days before the planned implementation of GRAP. CAQM's action to offer this absolution is in response to compelling opposition from various Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) in the National Capital Region (NCR). These RWAs had protested the early decision to enforce a full ban on diesel gensets during this year's GRAP. Several establishments and residential societies have quoted numerous arguments for upgrading to gas-based gensets. The draft proposal disclosed by CAQM emphasized numerous issues, such as delays by gas distribution agencies in providing piped natural gas (PNG) connections & supply, techno-commercial constraints, restraints in the accessibility of gas supply, heavy cost insinuations, and absence of adequate certified agencies for retrofit emission control devices (RECDs) for diesel producing sets up to 800 kW capacity.
September 2023- MAN Energy Solutions stated that six small-bore 21/31DF-M methanol burning gensets have been arranged for Pure Car and Truck Carrier (PCTC) new builds, a first such application for the engine. China Merchants Heavy Industry (CMHI) ordered the seven-cylinder gensets in association with the construction of two 9,300 ceu PCTCs for China Merchants Energy Shipping (CMES). MAN Energy Solutions' licensee, CMP, will develop the engines in China, with the first delivery due in Q1 2025.
