Currently, physical lifting and driving are used to move the bags between the aeroplane and the baggage hall. This is still an expensive and time-consuming operation.
In 2023, The new Terminal 2 at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR Airport) was outfitted with 34 Self Bag Drop devices to enhance the passenger experience. This was done in collaboration with Materna IPS, a member of the FTE Baggage Innovation Working Group. In order to guarantee a seamless and safe baggage drop, the Self Bag Drops that are a part of the Flex.Go system are outfitted with dimensions and conveyability detection based on artificial intelligence. Afterwards, more elements, including biometrics, could be included based on what the airport needs. In the meanwhile, work is underway to integrate a payment system for extra baggage.
