NXP Semiconductors joined forces with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) to provide software-defined vehicles (SDVs) with embedded magnetic random-access memory (MRAM) based on 16nm FinFET technology. The best hardware platform for this transition combines next-generation non-volatile memory in 16 nm FinFET technology with high-performance S32 automotive processors from NXP.
Through over-the-air (OTA) updates, SDVs allow automakers to provide new comfort, safety, and convenience features, extending the life of the vehicle and improving its functioning. Due to the increased usage of software-based features in automobiles, where MRAM's speed and resilience will become crucial, the frequency of updates is anticipated to rise.

HARMAN, an automotive technology company focused on designing consumer experiences at automotive grade, and ProteanTecs, a global leader in deep data analytics for advanced electronics, have joined forces to advance a novel method of vehicle electronics predictive and preventive maintenance. The HARMAN and proteanTecs solution combine over-the-air (OTA) technology, deep data analytics, and advanced device health monitoring to warn, forecast, and avoid problems throughout the fleet. A recent white paper outlining the firms' joint cloud and onboard applications provides more information and use cases for this integrated solution.
Important upgrades for the software-defined vehicles rely on OTA technology, which might directly increase the burden on the electronics. Electronic control units are composed of sophisticated system-on-chips (SoCs) with billions of transistors, a number that has increased every year over the previous three decades. It becomes more and more challenging to identify and stop errors as a result of this complexity.
