September 2023- To enhance the sustainability of the airport, Vilnius airport has started the operation of a wastewater treatment plant for aircraft de-ice. This is the first wastewater treatment plant in the Baltic states. The plant will collect and process all the wastewater produced during the de-icing of the aircraft, which can be used as raw material in the aviation industry and other sectors. The de-ice fluid will be processed into raw material for other products. To serve the increasing volume of aviation traffic and to move to the next steps of the strategic development of Vilnius airport.
March 2023- Aeroplane de-icing robots are set to enter the world of aircraft cleaning and de-icing operations. MSG Aviation, a Norwegian company specializing in de-icing aircraft, has announced that it will build the world's biggest de-icing robot at the Avinor Oslo Airport. The robot will be equipped with MSG Aviation's own artificial intelligence software and will be able to remove snow and ice on single and double-aisle planes, clean the fuselage and engine, and carry out technical inspections. The robot can clean everything from big commercial aircraft to small private jets and military aircraft.
February 2023- Aviator Airport Alliance, an aviation service provider has of late secured a contract of 5 years from Lufthansa Group for de-icing/anti-icing services and ground handling. Aviator as per the agreement will offer the services at the Stockholm Arlanda Airport to the Deutsche Lufthansa, Swiss International Air Lines & Australian Airlines that are under the Lufthansa Group. This contract in fact will cover about 111 turnarounds for the group every week.
