Gum Turpentine Oil Market is predicted to reach USD 1,579.83 million at a CAGR of 6.52% during the forecast period

Pune, India, Dec 2022, MRFR Press Release/Market Research Future has published a Cooked Research Report on the Global Gum Turpentine Oil Market.

Global Gum Turpentine Oil market

Pine tree sap is distilled into gum turpentine oil which is a natural substance. Pinene is the primary component of this natural essential oil, which consists of a wide variety of other terpenoids and hydrocarbons with their own unique chemical activity. Pine chemical production has global ramifications that touch many people's lives. Products derived from pine trees provide a sustainable supply of intermediate chemicals required in the manufacture of common household items used all over the world. Using one of three techniques, pine chemicals can be extracted. Crude Tall Oil (CTO) and Crude Sulphate Turpentine (CST) are recovered as coproducts of the pulping process in the papermaking industry. These compounds are found naturally in pine trees. Gum Rosin (GR) and Gum Turpentine (GT) can be extracted from pine trees in the wild to produce oleoresin. As part of a much more niche sector of the industry, wood turpentine and selected rosins are extracted by grinding up old pine tree stumps and then using a solvent.

Turpentine, rosin, and any derivatives of these substances are obtained by tapping living pine trees in either plantations or natural stands. Their gum names commonly refer to both turpentine and rosin. Old pine stumps yield similar materials. In regions where pine trees are harvested, turpentine has been utilized as a paint and varnish cleaner. Certain niche applications exist in the pharmaceutical sector as well. These days, turpentine is mostly used to extract chemical isolates, which are then employed in producing a wide variety of end products. Many have major nonaromatic applications, such as polyterpene resins, but the flavour and fragrance industries employ most of them. The largest single turpentine derivative is synthetic pine oil. Several items on the market employ pine oil because of its distinctive scent. Many of the flavours and odours used today, typically associated with naturally occurring oils, may be derived from turpentine.

Derivatives such as camphor, citral, linalool, citronellal, menthol, iso bornyl acetate, and others are used either as such or for elaborating other fragrance and flavor compounds. Among all the end-user applications, paints, coatings, and varnish are the most important consumers, and cleansers and perfumery applications follow them. However, the introduction of water-based paints and the availability of cheap solvent streams from petroleum have greatly diminished this requirement.

Market Synopsis

According to the MRFR analysis, the global gum turpentine oil market size is projected to reach USD 1,579.83 million by 2030 at a CAGR of 6.52%.

Some drivers driving the gum-turpentine oil market are sustained demand from the perfumery and cosmetics industry and continued demand from the paints & coating industry. Turpentine is at or near the top of the list of essential ingredients for various manufacturing processes across diverse end-use industries, including paints & coating. Chemical usage currently accounts for a vital chunk of turpentine consumption as all other uses put together. Turpentine is a common chemical used in the pharmaceutical and beauty sectors. It is best known for its cleaning and thinning abilities. The oil of turpentine, after being extracted, has several applications. One of the most typical applications of turpentine oil derived from gum turpentine oil is being used as a solvent. Most alkyd and oil-based paints, varnishes, and enamels applied with a brush are traditionally thinned with turpentine because of their higher quality. It makes it easier for the paint to coat, bond, and penetrate many kinds of wood. In addition, the gum spirits in turpentine work wonderfully with oil paints.

Additionally, the sustainability focus of the pine-chemicals industry is in line with the rising demand for environmental-friendly ingredients. The rising number of tappers in developing countries to generate increased revenues in the mid-term forecast period are some opportunities in front of the gum turpentine oil manufacturers. However, the overall demand is affected by the availability of substitutes and pine & tapper availability along with changing government regulations surrounding the pine-chemicals market.
