Triple-Junction Solar Cells To Accelerate Solar Energy Uses

By Shubhendra Anand , 15 July, 2024

The clean energy transition aims to transform the nation's energy sector globally. It aims at decarbonization, countries adopting up to 80 percent renewable energy sources, and others. Researchers have developed a new solar cell to transform power conversion efficiency up to 27.1 percent in 2024. It can convert solar energy into such energy per one square centimeter of solar energy absorption area. Researchers from the University of Singapore found this triple-junction perovskite tandem solar cell that transforms energy.

According to the research data, the study involved the team experimenting with the new cyanate-infused perovskite solar cell to get the results. It is energy efficient and, at the same time, stable. Solar cells have the efficiency of being split into more than two layers. Increasing the number of layers helps build multi-junction solar cells that help improve the solar cells' efficiency. However, this setup poses many challenges, like voltage loss and uncertainty. Therefore, researchers from the University of Singapore integrated cyanate into the perovskite solar cells to build a new model called a triple-junction perovskite solar cell. The cyanate in the solar cells will help to enhance the performance of this triple-junction perovskite solar cell and other multi-junction solar cells in 2024.

Experts suggest that the cyanate-integrated triple junction solar cells can attain stability and deliver more efficiency. The clean energy transition can be accelerated by incorporating newly developed perovskite tandem solar cells. This is due to the efficiency of triple junction solar cells in performing various applications through solar energy by taking less space to operate. Therefore, triple-junction perovskite solar cells will help improve the transition to green energy in 2024.
