Sustainable Packaging and Recycling in the Packaging Industry are the Latest Trends of 2023

By Snehal Singh , 06 October, 2023

The packaging industry has grown in the last five years, making handling packaging of parcels easier with its new trends and developing technologies. Sustainable packaging is one of those trends. One of the leading recyclers of agricultural film, LyondellBasell and AFA Nord, has recently come forward to form a fifty-fifty joint venture for recycling commercial secondary packaging wastes in 2023. The company LyondellBasell plans to build a mechanical recycling plant in northern Germany to recycle plastic materials for use in flexible packaging. The recycling process here will consider Linear Low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) and low-density polyethylene (LDPE) waste to be converted into recycled plastic materials, and it is expected to start production by early 2025. Sustainability has gained attention in the packaging industry as specific reports have already proved the adverse effects of packaging materials on the environment. The brighter side provides convenience in transporting packages, but the other side of the industry is proving dangerous for the environment. According to recent studies, sustainability is the top-most priority in the packaging industry, with 90 percent of reports of industry decision-makers. There are various innovations to focus on the sustainability packaging trends, such as recycling materials and reduction of material wastes, among others. The sustainability packaging phenomenon can include biodegradable, recyclable packaging options, and other packaging solutions can do the work with the same efficiency as the heavier counterparts. Analysts view sustainable packaging as the priority of retailers nowadays. Since more businesses and buyers at the level are more driven towards environmental protection, thus, focusing on the best sustainable way of packaging. With increasing consumer pressure, retailers aim to make their products' packaging environmentally friendly. Therefore, the retail industry is quickly swapping for sustainable packaging alternatives.
