Iron-Air Batteries Claim To Accelerate Clean Energy Transition
By Shubhendra Anand , 02 July, 2024
Decarbonization in the energy market is the new strategy to overcome climate change issues. Globally, the nations’ aim to achieve net zero emissions by the end of 2050. Hence, the energy market is bent on finding solutions to create, store, and produce clean energy for longer. Research is undertaken in different energy market sectors to develop eco-friendly and cost-effective solutions to support the transition in 2024. Clean energy companies are diving into the study of the decarbonization process. Therefore, companies are finding cost-effective batteries that would accelerate the electrification of the automotive industry. One such experiment embarked upon developing a technology with iron-air batteries for decarbonization in 2024. However, the well-known ‘Form Energy' accidentally found an effective process for the energy markets.
Global green energy transformation is at a primary level and requires research into the energy market for better solutions. Hence, Form Energy developed a technology that can work both for decarbonization and the storage of energy in the long term. Both of these phenomena are necessary to carry out the clean energy transition. Experts believe that long-term storage is essential to tackle the environment. Since there is a lack of infrastructure for storing Energy, new technology by Form Energy would secure an utterly renewable energy mix. In the case of decarbonization, the technology would help to maintain renewable security in aviation, iron and steel production, and other hazardous industrial methods. Form Energy company supports the production of green energy and supplies it to the energy market. Upon experimenting with the battery technology, it was found that an iron air battery could store clean energy for a longer time. Hence, iron-air batteries are a strong competitor to lithium-ion batteries.
According to experts, cleaning the iron and steel industry is another challenge for the clean energy transition. Newly developed technology claims to be a solution for cleaning up the iron and steel industry. Steel manufacturing leads to the highest emissions compared to other sectors. Since steel is made by purifying iron ore, it contributes to 7 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. However, the company claims that this technology can be continued for a more extended period with a high-efficiency rate. It claims to give competition to furnaces powered by conventional fossil fuels, too. Apart from this development and findings by Form Energy, the company focuses on commercializing the technology in 2024. Hence, it can enhance the progress of clean energy transition.
